RECAP: FSU Tames Wolfpack for Second ACC Victory, 31-13

TALLAHASSEE – QB Alex Hornibrook threw three touchdown passes as Florida State won their second straight ACC game of the season, 31-13 over N.C. State before 60,350 Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Hornibrook teamed up with Tamorrion Terry for two TDs. Cam Akers added a 41-yard touchdown run.

Terry caught five passes for 77 yards.

Hornibrook was 29 of 40 passing for 316 yards. Akers had 83 yards on 17 carries.

QB Bailey Hockman pulled N.C. State (3-2, 0-1) to within 11 points with a slant pass to Emeka Emezie at the goal line. But the Seminoles responded with two touchdowns.

Hockman was 21 of 40 for 208 yards.

Florida State (3-2, 2-1) led 17-6 at the half.

Ontaria Wilson caught a 40-yard TD pass from Hornibrook with 58 seconds to play in the second quarter in a 14-point swing. Wilson led all receivers with 93 yards on four receptions.

Trailing 6-3 Hornibrook hit Wilson for 17 yards and Keyshawn Helton for 13 to put FSU inside the NC State 50.

Two plays later his post completion to Terry resulted in a 43-yard score. Terry would score his third TD of the season on a nine-yard catch in the third quarter

The Wolfpack (3-1, 0-1) went on top 3-0 in the second quarter. Christopher Dunn kicked a 26-yard field goal.

A 33-yard pass from Hockman to Devin Carter set up N.C State at the FSU 6. Carter led Wolfpack receivers with 68 yards on four catches.

But the Wolfpack had to settle for the go-ahead field goal.

The teams traded field goals in the first quarter. Rick Aguayo’s 37-yard gave the Seminoles the early lead. Dunn tied the game from 29 yards out.

Both N.C. State and FSU have a bye week.

GAME NOTES: The FSU defense stopped the Wolfpack on a fourth and one at the Seminoles 36….the ‘Noles Cyrus Fagan had two near interceptions in the first half…Dunn missed a field goal to close out the second quarter….Aguayo’s kick went wide left in a 47-yarder in the third quarter…FSU’s Janarius Robinson was ejected for targeting Hockman in the fourth quarter…it was Hornibrook’s first 300-yard passing game..Parker Grothaus kicked the extra points on FSU final two touchdowns….N.C. State running back Ricky Person was injured and had ti be carted off the field in the scecond half.
