SEC: Gators Win in Sleeper over Vols 34-3

GAINESVILLE — Florida QB Kyle Trask threw for 293 yards as the Gators ran over SEC rival Tennessee 34-3 before 82,776 at Florida Field Saturday afternoon.
Florida opened the scoring on the day when tight end Kyle Pitts caught a 19-yard touchdown from Trask two-and-half minutes into the game.
A forced fumble gave Tennessee the ball at the Florida 19-yard line, but Jarrett Guarantano’s pass from the 3 on third-and-goal was intercepted after a near score by Jauan Jennings with six minutes left in the first quarter.
Florida Lamical Perine rushed for a season-high 62 yards and a touchdown on 14 carrise. Pitts had four receptions for 62 yards.
The Gators added a Freddie Swain touchdown catch to make it 24-3. Trask completed 20 of 28 passes
Florida led 17-0 at halftime.
UT’s offense also got a shakeup in the second half as true freshman QB Brian Maurer started the third quarter.
Hailing from nearby Ocala, Fla., he threw for 46 yards on 3-of-6 passing on the drive to move the Vols into field goal range.
The drive was capped by Brent Cimaglia’s nation-leading ninth consecutive field goal this season to make the score 17-3.
Florida’s Dameon Pierce scored on a 10-yard touchdown run the the fourth quarter.
Evan McPherson kicked field goals of 22 and 37 yards for the Gators.
The Gators (4-0, 2-0) step out of league play next week with a home game against FCS-classified Towson (3-0), from the Colonial Athletic Association.
Things don’t get any easier for the Vols. Tennessee returns to Neyland Stadium on Saturday, October 5 to host No. 3 Georgia
