ACC: FSU Can’t Hold the Tigers in 59-10 Loss at Doak

TALLAHASSEE — No. 2 Clemson made a statement Saturday at Doak Campbell with a 59-10 win over Florida State.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Tigers exploded for 28 points in the remainder of the first half.

FSU QB Deondre Francois was 17 of 36 passes for 180 yards with one interception. Running backs Jacques Patrick and Cam Akers combined for 24 yards on 18 carries, while Tamorrion Terry led the receivers with 55 yards.

Down 45-0, Ricky Aguayo scored FSU’s first points with a 35-yard field goal late in the third quarter. Backup QB James Blackman later connected with freshman Keyshawn Helton for a 73-yard touchdown pass in the final five minutes of the lopsided game.

FSU’s 49-point margin of defeat is its worst at home and tied for its largest ever. The Seminoles (4-4, 2-4 ACC) have road dates at No. 22 North Carolina State and No. 3 Notre Dame up next, then will close out the regular season at home with Boston College and No. 9 Florida.

The game marked the first time in program history that the Tigers posted back-to-back wins at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence threw for 314 yards and four touchdowns.

The Tigers’ receiving duo of Amari Rodgers and Tee Higgins combined for four touchdowns and 218 yards, including a career-high 165 receiving yards by Rodgers.

GAME NOTES: The Seminoles were penalized 15 times for 154 yards and punted 12 times….Clemson (8-0, 5-0) hosts Louisville next week.
