Rowdies Defender Damion Lowe Named to Jamaican Gold Cup Squad

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tampa Bay Rowdies center back Damion Lowe will represent Jamaica at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the club confirmed Thursday.

Lowe was called up for last week’s Caribbean Cup and will continue on with the squad through the Gold Cup. He will depart for training camp after Saturday’s match in South Carolina against the Charleston Battery.

“Representing Jamaica at the Gold Cup is a big dream of mine,” Lowe said. “I’m excited to be in the Gold Cup squad and show people what Jamaica can do. We’ve had some success in this tournament in the past and I hope to help continue the trend.”

Jamaica (FIFA rank No. 79) is in Group C, along with Mexico (No. 17), El Salvador (No. 106) and Curaçao (No. 70).

The Reggae Boyz open against Curaçao in San Diego on July 9, then play Mexico in Denver on July 13 and finish the group stage against El Salvador in San Antonio on July 16.

Lowe is one of four USL players called into Jamaica’s squad, along with Romario Williams (Charleston Battery), Cory Burke (Bethlehem Steel FC) and Sergio Campbell (Rochester Rhinos.)
