BOLTS: Point Notches First Career Goal Against Devils


TAMPA – Brayden Point scored his first career goal and Ben Bishop made 37 saves as Tampa Bay defeated New Jersey 4-1.

Point recorded his first NHL goal after deflecting in a shot by Nikita Kucherov in the third period.

Bishop stopped 37-of-38 shots en route to his fifth win of the season.

The Lightning were outshot by the Devils 38-35 and Tampa Bay won 38 of 72 face-offs in the contest.

Brian Boyle, Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov also scored for the Lightning, who have six power-play goals in their last six games. J.T. Brown registered his first assist of the season on Boyle’s goal.

Hedman moved into sole possession of seventh place on the Bolts’ all-time games played list (483). Hedman’s assist on Brian Boyle’s second period goal ties Dan Boyle for most all-time by a Bolts’ defenseman (187). He also ties Dan Boyle for seventh all-time among all Bolts.

Damon Severson scored for the Devils, who failed to pick up a point for the first time in six games. Cory Schneider made 31 saves.

BOLTS NOTES: Nikita Kucherov paces the Bolts with a team-leading 11 assists on the year. He has nine assists in his last seven games…..Andrej Sustr recorded a game-high with four blocked shots… Tyler Johnson and Valtteri Filppula had a team-high with 11 face-offs won. the win puts the Bolts at 4-1-1 at Amalie Arena this season, the second home win against New Jersey this season….Tampa Bay is now 7-0-1 when scoring three or more goals in a game and 42-3-4 over the last two seasons.
