AFL: Los Angeles, Orlando Battle in Key Game; Storm Idle

LAS VEGAS – The Los Angeles KISS will travel to Amway Arena to challenge the undefeated Orlando Predators in what could prove to be a pivotal early-season contest on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The Predators need the win to stay unbeaten and ahead of the Philadelphia Soul, who will host the Cleveland Gladiators at Wells Fargo Center on at 4 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network. While the KISS try to stay with the Arizona Rattlers in the National Conference.

The other game of the weekend pits two preseason ArenaBowl favorites against each other when the Jacksonville Sharks host the undefeated Rattlers at Sea Best Field at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena at 7 p.m.

The Portland Steel (0-3) and Tampa Bay Storm (0-3) have Bye weeks in Week 4.

Arizona Rattlers (3-0) AT Jacksonville Sharks (1-2)

In six games against Jacksonville, Rattlers QB Nick Davila, who earned Under Armour Offensive Player of the Week, has 42 touchdowns and three interceptions… Jacksonville DL Antron Dillon played for the Rattlers in 2012 and 2013. During his time as a Rattler he was a part of two ArenaBowl titles and had 28 tackles and 4.5 sacks… Since Jacksonville entered the AFL in 2010, the Rattlers have won 79% of their games (86-23) and the Sharks have won 61% (66-43)… Arizona leads the AFL with the least amount of penalty yards with just under 21 a game. Jacksonville’s opponents aver­age the most penalty yards a game with just over 68… Jacksonville FB Derrick Ross and Arizona FB Mykel Benson are tied with a league leading six rushing touchdowns each…

SHARKS: QB Tommy Grady went 29-of-40 passing and threw for 289 yards and 4 TDs in last week’s loss to the Predators… Grady currently leads the AFL in passing yards with 894… WR Joe Hills added 11 receptions for 124 yards to his stats putting him as the AFL leader in receiving yards with 429… Hills is currently No. 2 in the AFL in scoring TDs with 9… DB Greg Reid led the Sharks with six tackles helping put him in No. 2 in the league with 24.0 tackles through three games… Jacksonville are No. 1 in the AFL in total offense averaging just under 312 yards per game.

LOS ANGELES KISS (2-1) AT Orlando Predators (3-0)

KISS: DB Rayshaun Kizer, who earned Riddell Defensive Player of the Week against Cleveland, played two seasons for the Predators and earned First-Team All-Arena honors in 2010 and 2011 after totaling 28 INTs over that time… Kizer’s 17.5 total tackles ranks him No. 5 in the league. He is also No. 2 in the AFL with two INTs and is No. 7 with 5 pass breakups… WR DJ Stephens is ranked No. 2 in the AFL with 495 all-purpose yards. He is also fourth in kick return yards (206), receptions (27), as well as receiving yards (180)… K Andre Heidari is tied for the AFL lead with one made field goal and is tied for No. 3 with 14 kicking points scored. In addition, he is No. 4 in the AFL with a 84.6% extra point success rate… WR Donovan Morgan is No. 3 in the AFL with 48 points scored and is no. 4 with 13.7 yards per reception… FB Rory Nixon is No. 4 in the AFL with three rushing TDs. He is also seventh with 20 rushing yards…

PREDATORS: WR Brandon Thompkins played in six games for the LA KISS in 2014, totaling 24 receptions for 262 yards and five TDs while adding 274 yards with two scores on 13 kickoff returns… Thompkins earned “Highlight of the Week” with his 54-yard Missed FG return to end the first half in the Predators victory over the Sharks… Now entering his seventh season in the AFL, DL Mike Lewis has made a career out of pressuring the quarterback. In fact, the four-time All-Arena performer has racked up 56.5 sacks in his career and is now just 4.5 sacks shy of setting the all-time record, previously held by 13-year AFL veteran Sam Hernandez (60.5).

Cleveland Gladiators (1-1) AT Philadelphia Soul (2-1)

GLADIATORS: WR Dominick Goodman made five catches for 34 yards and caught a TD late in the fourth quarter of the home loss to Los Angeles. Goodman is now the franchise’s current leader in receptions (749), receiving yards (7,447) and TDs (134). He racked up 135 catches, 1,262 receiving yards, and 27 TDs in 2015 and had at least 7 catches in all but two games throughout the season… WR Collin Taylor had another big game for the Gladiators last weekend. ‘CT’ caught 13 passes for 101 yards and three TDs in the defeat. So far on the season, Taylor has caught 21 passes for 202 yards and 7 TDs… DB Brandon Stephens stepped up in the absence of DB Joe Powell, leading the defense with nine tackles as well as his first career interception (Cutters Catch of the Week). DB’s Marvin Ross and Demarcus Robinson each made four tackles… Gladiators DB Ray Little and MLB Curtis Young both spent a brief amount of time with the Philadelphia Soul during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, respectively… QB Dennis Havrilla, in his first season with the Gladiators, has completed 47-of-73 passes for 455 yards, 10 touchdowns and three INTs.

SOUL: FB Jeramie Richardson rushed for 93 yards and seven TDs last season with the Gladiators and also registered 18 tackles, two forced fumbles, and a sack with the team in 2015… QB Dan Raudabaugh has completed 62-of-94 passes for 760 yards and 18 TDs. He was awarded Under Armour Player of the Game this past weekend, completing 17-of-25 passes for 221 yards and eight TDs… Ryan McDaniel leads the Soul receivers with 19 receptions for 266 yards and four TDs this season. In Week 3 against the Steel, he caught five passes for 78 yards and three TDs.
